The Importance of a Good Headset

Like it or not Gaming is competitive, and looks set to become an even bigger stage for waging war between fellow Gamers with pride, glory and now even large sums of cash all on the line! Competition in terms of gaming has come along way from being solely about setting the high scores in Space Invaders or Time Crisis down in the local arcade. Now we have gamers constantly thrash talking to each other in lobbies about how they just ‘pwned your ass’ and leader-boards in games are contested down to almost every waking second of free time with the top gamers having racked in unimaginable amounts of hours in their favourite games. That however isn’t even the height of how competitive gaming has become, it has evolved beyond clans waging wars of attrition in forums and games, it has now become an electronic sport of sorts. Just look at the likes of Major League Gaming, single gamers or groups are now even getting sponsorship deals from gaming icons such as Razor, just his year Edge and Virgin Gaming announced a huge Killzone 3 3v3 Tournament with a staggering $40,000 up for grabs! With more of these competitions being held solely online, now is the time, if your serious, about getting a leg up on the competition.

The Competition, It is Fierce...

PSN’s Finest – Part 3

Welcome to the third and final part of PSN’s finest, just in case you missed the previous posts you can find part 1 here and part 2 here. The basic idea of these posts is to give people a better idea of the gems contained in the store’s ever growing Treasure chest, ranging from old school classics to the latest AAA Blockbuster titles. Now for the last main category to explore, the range of full PS3 titles that have made their ways from their original homes on Blu-ray discs onto the store.

Full PS3 Titles

Along with the PSN specific games and PS1 titles the Store also offers a selection of the ”Big ole’ Bad” retail games which are ready to tear your hard-drive a new one, so if you have an original PS3 you may want to slap in a new hard-drive especially if you plan on taking the Digital Revolution very literally. There’s not a huge list on at the minute, it only seems to consists of a select few from Sony’s own studios, EA and Ubisoft. But here is the Best 5 full Games, in no particular order on offer!

PSN’s Finest – Part 2

For those who missed out on Part 1, the Purpose of this piece is to give Gamers a better idea about the ‘Cream of the Crop’ in terms of whats on offer on the PSN store and a quick glimpse at some of the most promising upcoming titles. Now onto the second main category of games available on the store, the PS1 Games.

Oh the Memories :')

Playstation 1 Games:

This is the ‘Old School’ section, with all kinds of games originating from Sony’s first venture into the video-games market, ranging from the likes of Wipeout 2047 to the original Crash Bandicoot. The PS1 was my first games console back in the day but even so I missed out on so many great games, my own PS1 still works perfectly but most of my games have been destroyed through my own carelessness! But I’m sure hearing the old start-up jingle will trigger flash-floods of nostalgia along for you all along with the added benefit of being able to play your favourite classics on your HD T.V’s and PSP. Unfortunately depending on which country you reside in will have a great effect on what games are on offer, as it varies wildly with the Japanese store easily having the best and widest variety of games to pick from. Now for the best 3 currently available for download!

Metal Gear Solid

The Beginning (Excluding the ‘Metal Gear’ games on the MSX) of what I and many other Gamers consider to be the Best  game series in existence. The famed ‘Tactical Espionage Action’ genre it basically created itself is a Legendary blend of Stealth, Action and over-the-top Boss fights all complimented by one of the most complex and compelling stories seen in a game or any other form of entertainment. Even approaching its 13th birthday it shames almost every game since, even some its own sequels (I’m looking at you MGS2). Snakes first 3d adventure contains so many memorable moments from hiding in a cardboard box to escape enemy pursuits, and the legendary Psycho Mantis battle to name just a few. Even with its age it’s still totally playable, the graphics and controls are very dated but its easy to overcome once you see what the game has to offer. If you want to begin some kind of Inner-gaming Renaissance then this is easily the best start, the best PS1 game on offer Hands Down! Continue reading

PSN’s Finest – Part 1

Sony’s Playstation Network has had its fair share of troubles in recent times with the entire network collapsing under DDoS attacks from the notorious ‘Anonymous’ group and a smaller group of hackers managing to infiltrate the network servers and even ‘steal’ users info. Not great publicity for Sony, but they eventually (taking their sweet time of course) restored the network and hopefully now it is actually more secure than ever! But to apologise they have given us the ‘Welcome Back’ program as a ‘Guilt Gift’ which is better than nothing. Although it is now over it may have brought some new guys onto the store and this piece should hopefully give you a good idea of the better games that are for sale.
